Observations about chickens & myself around chickens

Observations about chickens & myself around chickens

Chickens are goofy.
They always manage to tip over the water even when I think I've got it set up
just right. Clean water lasts maybe 15 mins before it's got SOMETHING in it.
They poop in & on EVERYTHING, even each other.
They play this crazy game where they fly at each other from one end of the
brooder box to the other. I swear one of them intentionally skids.
They will cower away from a bowl of scrambled eggs like it's going to eat them,
yet if I put anything on a wooden spoon they will fight to get to it.
A few of them still run like I'm taking them to slaughter if I try to pick them
up out of the brooder box. Yet, they will all willingly walk from the board on
the top of the brooder box to my knee and then to my lap to take a nap.
They never all sleep at once. There's always someone awake stirring around
waking up someone else.
One of them is a cry baby & can't stand to be by herself. I already see
alliances forming.
They are getting better about photo shoots. Will stay on their props for a while
longer than before. Still don't hold still enough for the camera so I'm getting
to appreciate LESS blurry pictures as the "good ones".
They aren't afraid of BIG dogs & let their fuzzy butts be sniffed with no
problem.
Baby chicks can FLY! From the bottom of the brooder box to the edges quite
easily. In fact when the screens are open they fly back and forth from screen to
screen like it's gym class.
Some things I've learned about how goofy I am. I worry too much about the
consistency of poo. I will prepare food and treats for the girls but not for my
family. I now have a "barn coat" even though the girls are in a Tuff Shed 25ft
from my back door. I will let my hand cramp up if a baby wants to nap on it. I
worry that they get bored in the box & let them have "outside time" on the top
of the box several times a day. I'm already keeping tabs on friends & family's
behavior to see who is nice enough to receive eggs. I can't imagine why everyone
else isn't crazy about chickens!
